Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage uses a system of long strokes, kneading, and friction, percussive, and vibration techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints. It is used primarily for full-body sessions and promotes general relaxation, improves blood circulation and range of motion, and relieves muscle tension. Swedish is the most common type of massage.

The Strokes

Effleurage - a smooth, gliding stroke is used to relax soft tissue, and is applied using both hands.

Friction is the deepest of Swedish massage strokes. This stroke encompasses deep, circular movements applied to soft tissue, causing the underlying layers of tissue to rub against each other. The result causes an increase in blood flow to the massaged area.

Petrissage (also called kneading) involves squeezing, rolling and kneading the muscles, and usually follows effleurage during Swedish massage.

Tapotement is executed with cupped hands, fingers, or the edge of the hand with short, alternating taps to the client.

Dry Skin Brushing

Enhance your massage session by including body bushing. Body brushing helps your lymphatic drainage system remove toxins from the body. In so doing, it helps to reduce cellulite in your thighs and butt, where fats, proteins and waste products tend to accumulate.

Body brushing is not a miracle cure for cellulite, but it does help, especially if you improve your dietary habits. Dry body brushing helps cellulite by getting fluid moving and boosting blood flow.

I use a natural bristle brush and take long strokes. I start at your feet, brushing up your legs and thighs towards the groin. I work in circular movements over the tummy, then do hands and arms, back and across the shoulders. I'll use gentle downward strokes on your neck, throat and chest.

Your skin may redden and start tingling as the body-brushing increases the circulation in areas of greatest fat-concentration.
